Latest Research Trends

There is a gaping gap of knowledge about what the local government sector does, and how they go about it.  Council Watch is slowly working to close that gap through undertaking regular research.  On a regular basis we contact each of the 85 Councils in New Zealand and ask them for information that will be of interest and relevance to residents.  As this request falls under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the Councils are required to provide a response within 20 working days.

Research Planned For 2010

Some of the research questions we have planned this year involve:

  • Council finances

  • Attitudes and opinions of elected members

  • The way Councils manage parking

  • Local body elections

Do you have a suggestion?  We'd love to hear it... contact Jarrod Coburn here and let him know.
